In this howto I will show you how to check your GIMP version number and how to update GIMP

Check your version number — In GIMP, check the version number of your GIMP by clicking

Click the GIMP website link — Click the link: "Visit the GIMP website".

(?) — Click the orange
DOWNLOAD
button in the middle of the page.

The numbers indicated are the latest version of GIMP. In the previous step, in the "about" window, I saw that my version is
2.8.10
. Now, the download button on the GIMP website says
2.8.16
so by following the next steps we will update to the version
2.8.16
of GIMP!

Click the "DOWNLOAD" button — Click the orange
DOWNLOAD
button in the middle of the page.

The numbers indicated are the latest version of GIMP. In the previous step, in the "about" window, I saw that my version is
2.8.10
. Now, the download button on the GIMP website says
2.8.16
so by following the next steps we will update to the version
2.8.16
of GIMP!

Click "download GIMP directly" — Click the right orange button to start download of latest version of GIMP.

Run the GIMP installer

Once the installer downloaded, run it directly from your browser (or start it by clicking the file:

gimp-2.8.16-setup

if you saved it on your computer).

Click "Install" — Click the "install" button to start installation of GIMP. This installation will update your current version to the new version.

Wait while the installer works — Wait during installation/update of GIMP.

Check again version number — Once installation complete, open GIMP and like we did in step 1, check again the version number of your GIMP by clicking

About
so we can check if GIMP has successfully been updated!

We can see
GIMP 2.8.16
so GIMP is now up to date!
