In this tutorial we will learn how to make simple linear gradients from one color to another in Gimp!
1
Take blend tool (color gradient)
Click the color gradient icon which says
blend tool: Fill selected area with a color gradient
2
Click foreground color
To choose the first color of the gradient, click the foreground color box to open the color selection dialog.
3
Choose a color
To choose a color: 1- Click in the color bar to choose a color 2- Click somewhere in this area to choose the level of saturation / brightness of the color
Then click
OK
4
Choose the second color
Click the background color box so you can choose the second color of the gradient.
5
Select "FG to BG" and "Linear"
In the tool options: 1- Click the gradient box to choose the gradient type
FG to BG
(foreground color to background color) 2- Set the gradient shape to
Linear
6
Draw a line
Now the gradient tool is ready to use, just draw a line anywhere in your image. This line represent the gradient start, end, length and angle. So if you want to make a simple linear gradient, just "draw" an horizontal line from left to right. If you want to make a vertical gradient, just draw a line from top to bottom... You can do whatever you want! Any length, angle...
It's beautiful!
To try different ones, just click UNDO and change the colors, shapes...
